Video Discription: Surveillance footage provided to the Chicago Sun-Times through the Freedom of Information Act shows a 2014 shooting involving former Cook County sheriff's officer Michael Raines outside the Funky Buddha Lounge in River West. Raines shot Fernando Lopez and used him as a human shield as Mario Orta, using a gun previously used by Lopez, shot at Raines. The Cook County sheriff's office found Raines' actions to be justified. Raines injured his back during the scuffle, and once his painkiller prescription ran out, he turned to heroin. He died of a fentanyl-laced heroin overdose less than a year after the shooting.
