A San Antonio school was placed on lockdown on Monday (April 28) after a student threatened to use a small arsenal of weapons stashed in his backpack.

The parents of the 17-year-old student alerted the school about possible violence when they found that he had left home along with several weapons they kept at home.

After confirming that their child was at James Madison High School, the parents arrived there, requesting school administrators search the teen's backpack where they found two guns, a knife and additional ammunition. The student also later admitted to hiding an AK-47 in the bathroom.

Officials say that the student intended to announce a list of demands over the school's intercom system and that he would commit violent acts if the demands were not met. The student's demands weren't clear, but it appears that the student was acting alone.

The school was placed on lockdown at around 10:15 a.m. Students were released back to their classes by 11:28 a.m. North East Independent School District officials said that the student will be charged as an adult for terroristic threats and for possession of arms in a prohibited area.
