A joint U.S.-Colombian anti-drug operation dubbed 'Republica 88,' has resulted in a bust of just under 1.5 tons of cocaine.

Authorities say two fast boats departed from northeast coast of Colombia on Tuesday.

As the fast boats passed an international sea border between Colombia and Honduras, the U.S. Coast Guard and Colombian police intercepted the boats.

And found just under 1.5 tons of cocaine hidden aboard.

The fast boats, their illicit cargo and four suspects from three nations were then taken to Tampa, Florida to face trial.

Around 10 tons of cocaine have been seized by the U.S. Coast Guard in 2014 alone.

Seven tons of the illegal drug bound for Holland were intercepted by Colombian authorities at a port there in early April.
